Land Title

Official document incontestably certifying land ownership in Cameroon. The land title is the sole legal proof of ownership recognised by Cameroonian law. It is issued by the Registrar of Land Titles after a registration procedure.

Why it matters

Without a land title, your ownership stays vulnerable to disputes, double sales and uncompensated expropriation. It is the foundational document of every secure land transaction in Cameroon.

Related procedure

Obtaining a land title goes through registration: file submission at the land office, adversarial boundary survey, publication in the Official Gazette, a 30-day objection window, then title issuance.

Frequently asked questions

Can a land title be challenged?

In principle no — a land title is final and unassailable once issued. However, irregularities in the registration procedure can give rise to appeals within the legal time limits.

What is the difference between a land title and a certificate of ownership?

A land title is absolute legal proof of ownership. A certificate of ownership is an administrative document that can be challenged. Only the land title offers full legal security.
